PUNTO MUERTO / EJERCICIO PARA PARAR

Video

As part of a screening at the Delphi Cinema, the two video works Punto muerto and Ejercicio para parar will be presented. Both pieces were created during a residency in Clermont-Ferrand, where Camila Cañeque focused on the theme of speed and developed performative exercises exploring resistance to the contemporary drive for constant productivity.

The video Punto muerto (English: Dead Center) shows the artist lying on a road in a silver full-body suit, lit by the headlights of a car. The engine revs loudly in neutral, the vehicle accelerates — but does not move. Through fast, fragmented cuts, the car repeatedly approaches the artist’s body. She appears alternately lying down, standing, or running in front of the vehicle. Again and again, a collision seems imminent, only to be avoided at the last moment.
The work reveals the absurd logic of a system that endlessly simulates action — without direction, without movement, without progress.

Ejercicio para parar (English: Exercise to Stop) presents a simple yet radical gesture: slashing a car tire. It is a futile attempt to halt unstoppable speed — an act that resists action itself. A desire to interrupt movement, sabotage forward motion, and decelerate the imposed tempo.

This gesture gains additional weight through its location: Clermont-Ferrand, home of the Michelin tire company. In the heart of a hub of industrial mobility, the artist enacts a small, quiet, but potent act of sabotage — charged with resistance.
