BONUS

Wilhelmsplatz in Stuttgart is a square enclosed by a traffic junction and numerous bars and restaurants. This site becomes the setting for Göksu Kunak's performance BONUS. Inspired by the bonus level of the video game Street Fighter, in which a car is destroyed, Kunak explores masculinity, broken relationships and the shifting symbols of power. The act of destruction becomes the starting point for a multi-layered performance.  
Central to this is the bond between father and daughter — a relationship characterized by silence. Political differences and the transformation of traditional images of masculinity have driven them apart. What happens, when what once connected them becomes their divide? 

Göksu Kunak works with cinematic quotations, pop-cultural icons and the visual language of action films to deconstruct hegemonic images of masculinity. BONUS is a haunting reflection on love, loss and struggle.
