Part four of 4E8A∞ is a long exhale: marking the conclusion of the festival and the breathing exercise, attention turns to a timeless breathing body — the organ of the Church of Reconciliation in Degerloch. With its mechanical breath, driven by so-called “working air,” the organ becomes a partner in a reconciliatory gesture toward one’s own vulnerable and finite respiratory system. Contemporary composer and organist Eva-Maria Houben will perform one of her contemplative works — music in which the organ’s winds, valves, and mechanical sounds become the central material.
This evening will also see the release of a publication that has developed over the course of the four performances, gathering scores, fragments, and traces of the entire project.
