~4E8A∞~ is a four-part performance series by Johanna Ackva, Cécile Kobel and Judith Milz. The title describes an instruction for breathing: 4 inhales, 8 exhales.
In order to look at the seemingly self-evident act of breathing from the point of view of its impairment, the third chapter takes the form of a performative walk to a place where breathing once emerged as a problem: the Ziegelklinge. Built in 1929, the housing estate, popularly known as “Hustenburg”, was originally built to house tuberculosis patients - a place that to this day negotiates the relationship between architecture and environment, community and isolation, breath and atmosphere. The walk through the settlement on the hillside with its old trees, taut washing lines and stone steps invites participants to empathize with what it means to be disabled - both historically and today.
